05/19/08 – Tolerance Reduction

Have you ever noticed that construction estimators tend to tolerate more than their fair share of chaos? Tolerance is generally thought of as a good trait; however, tolerance can quickly lead to procrastination followed by mediocrity.

The unnecessary burden of working amid chaos can lead to expensive estimating mistakes. Unfortunately, financial considerations often lead to procrastination instead of moving forward and becoming organized. Every estimator should be properly trained to become organized for success.

Far too many professional estimators never received adequate training; most were simply told: “Try to do the job, and try not to ask too many questions.” Eventually these same inadequately trained estimators lead the next generation of estimators; thus the sad cycle of mediocrity continues.

Since 1985, my professional services increased profits for hundreds of wall and ceiling contractors throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Today, you can start using your takeoff & estimating resources more effectively.
